Mermaid Prom Dress

Mermaid Prom Dress
The mermaid prom dress has quite a unique form. The dress hugs the body from the chest all the way down to the knees or mid calf area. Then at the bottom, the dress suddenly flares out, resembling the tail of a mermaid, which is how it got its name.

The look of the mermaid prom dress can be varied in several ways. Light material like silk or satin can be used to create a more loose-fitting appearance, causing the dress to only hug the most extreme curves of the body. While stiffer fabrics can be used to give a sultrier look as the dress will tightly hug the contours of the body, drawing even more attention to the dramatic shape of the dress and consequently the girl's figure.

The hem and flair of the mermaid prom dress can also be changed to alter the overall look of the dress. It can flare out in different places above the knee, at the knee, or below the knee for different effects. The bottom of the dress can also be altered by from the traditional all around flair to either a behind only or an in front only flair.

It is because of the tight form fitting design that not everyone body type fits nicely in the mermaid prom dress. It is made specifically to hug and show off every curve of the body. It is best worn by girls with slender and athletic figures for a classy look, or girls who are thin at the waist but have specific curves they want to show off. Full figured girls are not advised to wear this dress as it will show off every curve, including those they'd rather not. Also, girls who are not confident shouldn't wear this dress, as it is snug and form fitting and not everyone is comfortable showing off all the curves that the mermaid prom dress showcases.
